In 2011, I completed a documentary about my father's journey to coming out as a gay man titled Time Dances On. I was inspired to make the film in the hopes that by sharing the positive story of my own non-traditional family, I might add to the collective voice of a generation that believes in marriage and family equality.
Today, I'm proud to be a citizen of a country that shares my values, and believes in making it possible for my dad to enjoy the same civil rights as I do. There's still a long way to go, but I'm proud of the progress made today. Read the HRC official statement for more information on this landmark civil rights decision. -Sophie Today I received a letter in the mail from one of my favorite documentary filmmakers; Ken Burns! Mr. Burns was in town for the Ann Arbor Film Festival this March, and while he was here I was able to give him a copy of the Hill Auditorium documentary A Space for Music, A Seat for Everyone. It looks like he was able to watch the film, and didn't even mind I made liberal use of the "Ken Burns Effect". Certainly made for an exciting day in the office... -Sophie The UMS/PBS documentary A Space for Music, A Seat for Everyone was the lead story today on the University of Michigan's primary news service "Michigan Today"!
