On Saturday night, Sophia Kruz won a 2013 EMMY Award for 'Best Historical Documentary' from the Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for her most recent documentary A Space for Music, A Seat for Everyone. The film on the 100-year concert history of the University of Michigan's University Musical Society (UMS) in Ann Arbor's Hill Auditorium was first broadcast on PBS stations throughout Michigan in May 2013. The film has received numerous awards for Best Documentary at film festivals across the country. Kruz was not able to accept the award in person at the awards gala because she was in Rio de Janeiro filming her upcoming documentary on women's empowerment through art called Creating4Change. She got the good news about the award just before boarding a return flight from Rio de Janeiro to the US!
